Celebrating National Fitness Month
To advocate for and encourage Americans to adopt healthier lifestyles, in 1983, the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition dedicated the month of May as National Physical Fitness and Sports Month.
May is also designated as National Bike Month, which kicks off the National Bike Challenge (through September) and includes Bike to Work Week (May 15-21) and Bike to Work Day (May 19).
According to the League of American Cyclists, “40% of all trips in the U.S. are less than two miles, making bicycling a feasible and fun way to get around.”
So, if you’ve been waiting for winter to chill out or you just need some motivation to start moving more, now is the perfect time!

Dress for Success
Preparing for activity is just as important as doing it! For example, if you’re going to be outside during the day, don’t forget to wear sunscreen. You’ll also need gear that helps keep you cool and offers additional sun protection.
And the Atlas Pro Shop has plenty of Asphalt Life products that can do both, including:
- 20 oz. bike bottle
- 20 oz. tumbler
- ALL the hats (e.g., charcoal and pink mesh-back trucker cap, black and white ARC cap, mountain patch cap, royal and white Live Roof Play cap, straw hat — plus many more!)
- Buff headwear
- Performance wicking long-sleeve shirt
If you need a little more inspiration to get off the couch and go outside, the Pro Shop has other Asphalt Life-branded items that may be just what you need to take that first step, such as:
- Ogio Orbit golf bag
While it may not be aerobic exercise, golfing is still physical activity.
Tip: Try walking the course instead of driving a golf cart. - Dog collar and dog leash
Your fur baby can benefit from some exercise too!
Tip: Don’t forget to properly protect their paws from the hot asphalt or walk them in the morning or evening, when the pavement is cooler, and offer them plenty of water breaks. - 12 oz. silicone wine glass and Toadfish non-tipping can cooler
Ever heard of a wine/beer walk? You have now!
Tip: Gather some friends and take an after-dinner stroll through the neighborhood while enjoying your favorite adult beverage. (Hey, whatever gets you walking — no judgment!)
